Prizes for Global Startup Battle Overview


November 24 – 25: ENTRY PHASE

Create a 60 second video entry and submit it to each Circle that you want to compete in within 24 hours after the end of your event (9:00PM on Monday, November 25). Videos received late will not be considered. You will receive a link to your entry that you can share on November 26th.

Judging criteria is as follows:

  • Business Model: Can this idea make money? Is there positive customer growth or revenue? Is there a customer acquisition / rollout strategy? Has a revenue model been defined and is it realistic? Is the idea/team ready for capital and execution? Would you invest in this company at this point?
  • Customer Validation: Did the team identify customers (demographic, location etc)? Did the team get out and talk to customers? What is the value proposition to customers? What channels of communication are used? Product/Market fit?
  • Technical – Execution: Is there a functional product ( the case of an app, did they build one)? Were architecture diagrams and API signatures included? Which services did they integrate with? How much of the product is running on a real server with non-sample data?
  • Design – Execution: Does it have a professional look and feel? Does it deliver a compelling and captivating user experience? Is it memorable? What key insights were gathered over the weekend to go in this creative direction?
  • Team – Longevity: Does this team have the pieces, skills, and leadership to successfully move forward on this idea? Does this team seem committed to making their idea work in the long-term?

November 26 – December 6: VOTING PHASE

The voting period where you try and earn votes from the community. The top 15 vote getters in each Circle will move on to the voting stage.

  • Each person gets one vote per 24-hour period, so multiple votes from a valid email address are allowed. An email address, first name, last name, and city of residence is required to vote.
  • Voting ends on December 7 at 1:44PM in Nepal (11:59 PST on 6/12/13). 

December 9 – 12: JUDGING PHASE

The top 15 entries will be judged by a panel of entrepreneurial experts based on the pre-set criteria. Each judge will rate teams from 1-10 based on how well the judges think the team meets the criteria. Their total score will determine their ranking. All finalists will receive feedback. Winners will be announced after December 12th and notified by email within five to ten business days of selection.


  • Eligibility: Teams that attend a Startup Weekend event during Global Startup Battle and place 1st or 2nd are eligible to enter the Champion’s Circle powered by Google for Entrepreneurs.
  • Rules: Your placement will be verified with the event Organizer (entrants must complete the team survey provided by the organizers during the event so the sponsor can verify eligibility). 


  • Eligibility: Teams must develop a product or service with a go-to-market model best fit for an e-commerce store or application.
  • Rules: Your video submission should showcase your product/ service and how you will successfully sell via e-commerce.
  • Additional judging Criteria:
  • Creativity & reach of video submission
  • Viability, originality & scalability within e-commerce go to market model (via Bigcommerce)
  • Thoroughness of pitch
  • Team dynamic: Level of collaboration & drive that could lead to success


  • Eligibility: The Team must have developed and launched a website promoting the Team’s proposed business on a domain name in the .CO domain. The Team Site must actually reside on a .CO Domain. Use of a .CO Domain merely to forward traffic to a URL on another domain is not acceptable.
  • Rules: Each video submitted for this circle must include a mention or reference to the .CO Domain on which the Team Site is built, and must be submitted in one of the following file formats: mpg, wmv, mov, flv, avi, mp4.
  • Additional judging Criteria:
  • Enthusiasm for .CO: Did the team communicate enthusiasm for .CO in their submission video?


Eligibility (one or more of the following):

  • Team must be the result of a pitch that was given by a woman
  • Team must consist of 50% or more women members
  • Team must be led by a woman
  • Additional judging Criteria:
  • Which idea is most likely to fundamentally change the way people do things or impact the most people, starting with those in the Coca Cola Value Chain.
    • Producers – agricultural ingredients like citrus, tea and fruit used to make beverages
    • Suppliers – Organizations that supply goods and services that are procured for design, communication and production of beverages. Packaging, promotional products, agency services.
    • Distributors – Methods and people who deliver beverages to retailers
    • Retailers – places goods and beverages are sold
    • Recyclers – collecting, sorting and trading packaging materials
    • Artisans – utilizing recycled materials to create goods
