On Friday, July 5th, 2013 Islington College’s Westminster Palace room was the place to be. The place was buzzing with young women and men who gathered for Startup Weekend Kathmandu Women Edition. Now for the next three days (54 hours), the participants were about to get a taste of an entrepreneurial journey. It was a perfect place to be for people interested in doing a startup in Nepal.
Startup Weekend Kathmandu Women Edition began with much anticipation and hype following the success of its first event in February. This event was geared to encourage and cultivate a community for young women who are interested in entrepreneurship in Nepal.
At the 1 minute pitching time, there were 30 ideas pitched by women and 11 ideas pitched by men. Out of this, 11 good ideas were selected based on voting by the registered participants. The ideas selected were geared towards solving some pressing issues in our society. The 11 selected ideas were Easy Yatra (Transportation), Upload and get it(Fashion), Floating Restaurant (Food & Travel), Centralized Blood Bank System (Social), Sakchaam (Job creator), Saybhie (Wedding planning), Praveshdwar (Form distribution), Butta (T-shirt Design), SMS Mart (Advertising), StartupsNepal.com (Startup ecosystem) and Notify Me (Routine management system).
